Our
Work.

Our work goes beyond the classroom. We provide access to learning, support pathways towards citizenship and documentation, strengthen families and communities, and advocate for systems that are more inclusive and responsive to children's rights.

Our four pillars

Access to Education

Every child has the right to learn

For children who are unable to access or remain in formal education, the absence of a classroom can have lifelong consequences.

BJCK creates alternative and complementary pathways to education for children who face barriers to mainstream schooling.

Through structured learning, enrichment, project-based learning and skills development, we help children build knowledge, confidence and capabilities for their next step.

Our education work includes Sekolah Buku Jalanan Chow Kit (our alternative learning center in collaboration with Arus Academy), day and night learning, BJCK Night Classes, Children Club, enrichment activities and practical skills development.

Road to Citizenship

Identity is the beginning of belonging

For some children, the biggest barrier to their future is not their ability to learn. It is the lack of legal identity and documentation.

Without proper documentation or citizenship, children may face barriers to education, healthcare, employment and other essential services.

BJCK works with families to understand their circumstances, organise relevant documents, navigate processes and connect with appropriate support and professional networks.

We also raise awareness about statelessness and advocate for pathways that protect children's rights and future opportunities.

Our four pillars

Community Empowerment

Stronger families. Stronger communities.

Children do not grow in isolation. Their wellbeing is closely connected to their families, livelihoods and communities.

BJCK works beyond education to strengthen the people and systems surrounding each child through social support, parental support, community engagement, skills development and employment opportunities.

Our Community Employment Programme creates opportunities for community members to develop skills, earn an income and participate meaningfully in the local economy.

We believe empowerment means not only receiving support, but also having the opportunity to contribute, earn and build greater independence.

Advocacy

Changing systems, not just circumstances

Direct support can change one child's life. Advocacy can help change the conditions affecting many more.

BJCK brings community experiences into wider conversations around children's rights, education, statelessness, poverty and social inclusion.

We believe advocacy should begin with listening. The experiences of children and families should inform the conversations, policies and decisions that affect their lives.

We do not speak over communities. We create space for communities to be heard.
