ABOUT BJCK

Education.
Empowerment.
Belonging.

Buku Jalanan Chow Kit (BJCK) is a community-based organisation working with children and families in Chow Kit, Kuala Lumpur.

We began with a simple belief: every child has the right to education, regardless of their circumstances.

WHO WE ARE

Our work starts with education, but it does not stop there.

Over the years, our work has grown beyond educational support. We now work across education, community empowerment, documentation and citizenship, and advocacy to address the interconnected challenges faced by children and families in the community.

We believe that a child cannot thrive through education alone if the barriers around them remain unaddressed.

That is why we work with children, parents, educators, community members, partners and institutions to create pathways towards a more secure and dignified future.

WHAT GUIDES US

A clear purpose.
A shared direction.

01

Vision

A community where every child can learn, belong and build a future with dignity.

02

Mission

To expand access to education, strengthen communities, support pathways to citizenship and advocate for a more inclusive society.

Every child has potential.

A child’s circumstances should not determine the opportunities available to them.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The principles behind our work.

01

Every child has potential.

A child’s circumstances should not determine the opportunities available to them.

02

Education is a right.

Education should be accessible regardless of a child’s background, documentation status or socioeconomic circumstances.

03

Children need more than a classroom.

Learning is connected to safety, family wellbeing, economic security, identity and belonging.

04

Change happens with communities.

We work alongside communities, not simply for them.

05

Systems matter.

Individual support is important, but long-term change also requires stronger systems, policies and public understanding.
